British author Jane Fallon, 63, announced her breast cancer diagnosis and a recent mastectomy on her Instagram account on April 2, 2024. She revealed that the cancer was detected during a routine mammogram, despite her experiencing 'no symptoms' of the disease.
Fallon, partner to comedian Ricky Gervais, shared a photo of herself with a bandaged chest, explaining that her diagnosis occurred 'a while ago' and she underwent the mastectomy 'a few weeks ago.' She confirmed that 'it’s all gone' but also stated that she is scheduled to begin chemotherapy 'in a few weeks' as part of her treatment plan.
The author used her personal experience to stress the critical importance of regular screenings, stating, 'I was lucky; I had no symptoms and it was only picked up by a routine mammogram.' She urged her followers to book their mammograms, crediting the screening with 'saving my life,' and extended her gratitude to the NHS staff for their care.
