Christina Applegate recently revealed on the 'Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard' podcast that she 'lied' about her quick recovery from a double mastectomy in 2008, following her breast cancer diagnosis. The actress explained she felt immense pressure at the time to portray a strong, 'warrior' image and 'bounce back' quickly from the surgery, which involved removing both breasts.
Applegate described the reality of her post-surgery experience as extremely difficult, stating she was 'forced into chemotherapy' and put on a restrictive diet of no sugar, carbs, or dairy. She clarified that her body 'never recovered' from the procedure and that she struggled significantly, contradicting the public perception of her rapid return to health.
The 'Dead to Me' star, who was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2021, now speaks more openly about her health challenges. She shared that since her breast cancer diagnosis, she has undergone 30 MRIs and 'hundreds of biopsies' as part of her ongoing health monitoring.
